Entangled and Woven at the Whitworth celebrates textile craftsmanship across cultures

The Whitworth in Manchester presents 'Entangled and Woven,' a textile exhibition that foregrounds collective craftsmanship over individual authorship. The show begins with Manchester's history as a textile production hub and features works involving numerous artisans, such as Péro's 'Entangled Memories, Interwoven Stories,' which required 50 artisans and 18,000 hours to complete. Spanning three galleries, the exhibition showcases fabrics ranging from airy and ethereal to weighty and indigo-dipped, with every slip of fabric layered in delicate detail and texture. The pieces reflect the skills of weavers, craftspeople, and communities who repeat ancestral stitches and specialties.
