Ellsworth Kelly's Water-Inspired Abstraction at Fondation Maeght

The Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence inaugurated 'Ellsworth Kelly. Aux bords de l’eau' on June 27, 2026, curated by Éric de Chassey, a friend and specialist of the artist. The exhibition explores water as a leitmotif, drawing from Kelly's reflections in the 1950s on light reflections on water. It features many previously unseen works from the artist's studio, including ink and gouache pieces from 1951, silk squares, and photographs. The show highlights Kelly's cyclical creative process, revisiting themes across different media over decades. Notable works include 'Méditerranée' (1952), a nine-panel monochrome, and 'Blue Floor Panel' (1992), recreated for the exhibition. Kelly's abstraction transcends the figurative-non-figurative divide, with geometric forms seemingly emerging from water in postcard collages. The exhibition runs until November 15, 2026.
