Ella Wijt's Solo Debut 'Domestic Emotions' at Sullivan + Strumpf Singapore

Ella Wijt's inaugural solo exhibition, 'Domestic Emotions,' is on display at Sullivan + Strumpf in Singapore from June 25 to July 25, 2026. This exhibition delves into the complexities of domestic life, which Wijt characterizes as 'something very familiar, familiarly scary, familiarly beautiful, familiarly uncomfortable.' Rather than a sanctuary, home is depicted as an entity shaped by daily activities such as walking, drawing, sewing, and gardening, transforming the ordinary into the sacred. A prominent piece, 'Abundance of Blessings' (2026), welcomes attendees at the entrance, illustrating the terrain surrounding Wijt's residence in Depok, West Java. This artwork features meandering paths through fields and gardens, interspersed with lattice-like openings, glowing stars, and small fires, creating a magical atmosphere. A border of white daisies introduces a theme of resilience, echoed throughout the exhibition, where the landscape exists in a balance between cultivation and wilderness, portraying a personal cosmology that intertwines the material and spiritual realms.
