Elina Chauvet Accuses Romanian News Anchor of Plagiarizing Her Red Shoes Femicide Installation

Elina Chauvet, a Mexican artist, has accused Romanian news presenter Alessandra Stoicescu of copying her installation "Zapatos Rojos" (Red Shoes). This dispute emerged after Stoicescu's event titled "Dragostea poartă pantofii roșii" (Love wears Red Shoes) in Bucharest on March 31, 2026, which closely resembled Chauvet's work that highlights femicide, yet failed to acknowledge her. Chauvet's "Zapatos Rojos," launched in 2009 in Ciudad Juárez, symbolizes victims of femicide and has been exhibited worldwide. The timing of Stoicescu's event coincided with Romania's parliament enacting femicide legislation. Chauvet had previously reached out to Stoicescu in 2018 over a similar concern. Following the March event, Chauvet claimed her copyright on April 6, 2026, while Stoicescu amended her posts to include Chauvet’s name but has not directly communicated with her.
