Elderly Couple Arrested in Fatal Shooting of New York Times Gaming Engineer in Dublin, California

On Saturday afternoon, a couple aged 77 from Dublin, California, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, were taken into custody on murder charges after allegedly shooting their son-in-law, Jonathan McKinsey, in a sports complex parking lot. McKinsey, a 40-year-old gaming engineer employed by The New York Times, was discovered on the ground by a nearby police sergeant. Witnesses who observed the incident called 911 and identified the couple, who stayed at the scene. This incident occurred just one week prior to a hearing related to a contentious divorce and custody battle involving McKinsey and their daughter, Candice Jang. Court documents indicate that McKinsey and Jang had been married since around 2012 and had three young children. Zhang and Chen were scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning; it remains unclear if they secured legal counsel, and the phone numbers for Jang were found to be disconnected. Details were provided by Dublin Police Services in a news release.
