Ekaterina Shcherbakova's 'FUSA' transforms Montefollonico with textile sculptures and performance

For the third annual cycle of the Artist in Officina residency, Ekaterina Shcherbakova presented 'FUSA' in Montefollonico, Tuscany. The project, conceived by Paul Gregory and Tessa Singleton with Margareth Dorigatti and Emanuele Fasciani, took place in the town's former blacksmith workshop. Shcherbakova invited locals to donate unused textiles, which she transformed into four mobile sculptures through tying, sewing, accumulating, and pigmenting. These works were then activated in a procession by actors from Teatro Bruno Vitolo—Elena Bettonte, Pietro Ventura, Marilena Buracchi, and Donatella Volpi—who choreographed movements guided by the artist's vocalizations and electroacoustic sounds of a cat's purr. The performance culminated at the Cappella Santa Caterina, where the performers shed the textile shells, leaving them as relics. The exhibition ran from June 27 to July 5, 2026, at Cappella Santa Caterina, Via Ansano Landucci 44, Montefollonico, Torrita di Siena.
