Egyptian Court Sentences TV Presenter Sarah Khalifa to Death in Drug Trafficking Case

A Cairo court has condemned television host Sarah Khalifa, 39, along with 11 other individuals, to death by hanging for their roles in a significant drug trafficking scheme. This ruling, reported by the state-affiliated Al-Ahram newspaper, stems from charges of establishing an organized crime group that sourced materials for narcotics production with the aim of trafficking them, as well as illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. In accordance with Egyptian law for capital cases, the court sought the Grand Mufti of Egypt's religious guidance. Khalifa, who gained fame through her show 'Mission Impossible' focusing on crime and security, also runs a plastic surgery clinic and an events production company. The case has garnered considerable attention due to her prominence and the harsh penalties involved. The sentence can be appealed.
