Egedammen Kindergarten: A Wooden Nordic Swan Ecolabel Building in Gladsaxe

architecture-design · 2026-06-29

Egedammen Kindergarten, a municipal facility accommodating 144 children in Gladsaxe, Greater Copenhagen, has been completed by BBP Arkitekter. The design employs a phenomenological approach, focusing on spatial experiences that resonate with children's perceptions of scale, light, sound, and materials. Constructed mainly of wood and featuring a brick exterior, the building has earned the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, recognized as one of the most rigorous environmental certifications globally. Finished in 2022, the 1050 m² project also incorporates landscape architecture by Thing Brandt Landskab and civil engineering by Lyngkilde Ingeniører. The design team was led by lead architect Ebbe Wæhrens, with technical supervision from Søren Nygaard. The project has been captured in photographs by Jens Markus Lindhe and Mikkel Eye.
