Dyson CameraJet Toothbrush: A Tech-Driven Dental Do-Over

Dyson has unveiled the CameraJet, an electric toothbrush featuring an integrated miniature camera system trained on nearly half a million dental images. The device uses a water jet to floss between teeth, guided by an algorithm called 'Gap Optical Targeting'. According to Dyson's research, nine in ten people do not floss regularly, and average brushing time is 45 seconds, below the recommended two minutes. The CameraJet aims to address this with a home plaque removal system. James Dyson stated that flossing is an awkward chore and that engineers have spent over a decade understanding oral care. The toothbrush includes variable sonic oscillation, a conical jet of liquid, and a 12.5ml mouthrinse tank with a diaphragm pump. It comes with a charging dock, travel case, and bespoke toothpaste and mouthrinse in Ginger Mint and Spearmint flavors. The device has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and the MyDyson app provides a real-time view from the 100k pixel macro lens camera at 28 images per second. The CameraJet is priced at £419.99 and available in Ceramic Ultra Blue and Ceramic Pink. Dyson collaborated with the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Dentistry to develop a 'proxy plaque'. The toothbrush heads are RFID-equipped and not compatible with other brands.
