Dušan David Pařízek's "Trutz" Premieres at Staatstheater Kassel

exhibition · 2026-10-08

Christoph Hein's novel "Trutz" debuted on Saturday at Schauspielhaus Kassel, under the direction of Dušan David Pařízek, and was met with enthusiastic standing ovations. The narrative centers on Rem Gejm and Maykl Trutz, whose parents perished due to National Socialism and Stalinism, as they come together in Germany after reunification. Maykl's parents, Gudrun and Rainer Trutz, escaped Nazi Germany but ultimately fell victim to Stalin's purges, along with their friend Waldemar Gejm. After relocating to East Germany, Maykl discovered a Central Committee member's Nazi connections and faced repercussions. The minimalist staging includes large wooden panels and a chair. The play traverses from Weimar Berlin to contemporary Berlin. The next show is scheduled for Sunday, November 22, from 18:00 to 20:20 at Staatstheater Kassel.
