Dorotheum Reports Best First Half Ever with Record Sales from Artemisia Gentileschi to Carla Accardi

Austrian auction house Dorotheum achieved its best spring auction season in history, with standout results including an Artemisia Gentileschi painting sold for €837,500 in April and a record €520,000 for a work by Carla Accardi. Alessandro Rizzi, expert in the Modern and Contemporary Art department in Milan, attributed the success to client trust, meticulous selection, and a dynamic international market. Other top lots included works by Martha Jungwirth, Miriam Cahn, Claude Monet, Egon Schiele, and Marino Marini. Rizzi highlighted that collectors now seek museum-quality pieces with impeccable provenance, driving world records for artists like Paul Jenkins, Mario Ceroli, Piero Gilardi, Toti Scialoja, Giò Pomodoro, and Carla Accardi. Digital auctions have become a pillar, with the last Modern and Contemporary Art sale attracting bids from over 45 countries. Rizzi expressed cautious optimism for the autumn season despite geopolitical tensions, noting strong collector interest in Italy.
