Dolomites Chalet Blends Alpine Tradition with Contemporary Design

Lazzarini Pickering Architetti has completed a 160-square-meter duplex chalet in South Tyrol, Italy, designed with a boat-like approach to maximize space. Located on the top floor of a small residential building, the residence was created by merging two unfinished units. The project features a twelve-meter-long glass wall that opens the main floor to mountain views, with mirrors amplifying interior depth. The open-plan space includes a kitchen, two dining areas, a TV room with fireplace, a conversation area, two bedrooms, and two bathrooms. Upstairs, under a sloped roof, are a panoramic master bedroom and two guest bedrooms, with skylights enhancing natural light. Materials include larch wood cladding on floors, walls, and ceilings, contrasting with mushroom-yellow HPL laminates. Forged iron and Moessmer fabrics from Brunico complete the palette. Furniture blends Tyrolean craftsmanship with custom pieces and Marta Sala Éditions items, such as living room sofas and a custom dining table. The architects describe the chalet as a 'refuge and observatory' embodying a floating house immersed in nature among ice, snow, valleys, and alpine light.
