Dimitris Kontodimos Builds Collective Throne on Othoni, Greece
Artist Dimitris Kontodimos developed 'West/End (For those who made it this far)' during the Ionian Lab 2026 residency on Othoni, Greece's westernmost inhabited island. This installation, measuring 2.5 × 2.5 × 1.25 meters, consists of a four-level white platform constructed from 22 mm MDF panels over two to three days. It reinterprets the island's ancient name, Othronos, which means 'the throne', as a communal seating area instead of a single authoritative seat. Facing the western horizon, it serves as a sculpture, seating, and viewing platform, encouraging visitors to gather and enjoy the sea view. The title's subtitle hints at both arrival and achievement, while the installation's temporary nature means it will be present on Othoni until September 2026. Ionian Lab, a partnership between Space52 and Kalogerou1844, organized the project, which contrasts sharply with the island's rugged limestone terrain.
