Die Kids sind nicht alright! 2: Postmigrant East Germany Explored in Berlin-Adlershof

exhibition · 2026-09-17

Since late August, a large inflatable star in pink, red, and yellow has been glowing inside an old brick school building in Berlin-Adlershof, now the district's Kommunale Galerie and Kulturzentrum. The sculpture is by artist Minh Duc Pham and serves as the centerpiece of the exhibition Die Kids sind nicht alright! 2. The star references the Stern der Völkerfreundschaft, an East German order awarded for special merits in international understanding between socialist brother states. The exhibition examines what it means to be simultaneously East German and migrant, telling stories of post-reunification experiences, right-wing violence, and the search for belonging. The show is on view at the Kommunale Galerie and Kulturzentrum in Berlin-Adlershof. More details are available in the current issue of Freitag.
