DFW Airport Opens Call for Two New Public Artworks in Terminal C

DFW Airport has issued an open call for two new public artworks as part of a major expansion and renovation of Terminal C, which is Phase 2 of the DFW Forward project—a four-phase, $9 billion upgrade. The first project is a large-scale suspended installation for arriving passengers descending to baggage claim, with a budget of $625,000 to $725,000. The second, budgeted at $430,000 to $500,000, will be an overhead artwork (suspended sculpture or ceiling integration) for departing passengers post-security. Both must be "wow-worthy" and reflect North Texas context. Themes include "Connected Journeys," "Legacy and Innovation," and "Cultural Tapestry." The call is open to artists worldwide, with preference for midcareer or well-established artists with at least one similar large-scale public artwork. The process has three stages: expression of interest, concept proposals, and final proposals (shortlisted artists receive $3,500). Stage one deadline is July 16, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. CDT. Final selections are expected between November 2026 and February 2027. The airport's collection already includes works by Sol LeWitt, Terry Allen, and Benito Huerta. For Phase 1, Dallas sculptor Jen Rose and Los Angeles-based Pae White (known for her Triple Virgo at Rice University) were selected.
