Dezeen Lookbook: Eight Homes with Statement Wooden Staircases

Dezeen's latest lookbook showcases eight residential interiors where wooden staircases serve as central design features, highlighting the material's versatility. The projects span the UK, Mexico, the Netherlands, Croatia, Brazil, and Scotland, each employing wood in distinct ways—from cobalt-stained plywood in London to a pine-lined tunnel in Mexico. The compilation includes works by studios such as Foils, Pedro & Juana, Waind Gohil and Potter Architects, Julia van Beuningen, OFIS Arhitekti, Marcos Bertoldi Arquitetos, Brown & Brown, and Paolo Cossu Architects. Notable examples include the Cobalt Coach House in Peckham, London, featuring a bespoke plywood stair assembled in five parts; the Wooden Annex in Valle de Bravo, Mexico, constructed from steel U-beams and a dried pine tree; and The Arbor House in Aberdeen, Scotland, where a birch plywood staircase was hand-layered over three weeks. The lookbook is part of Dezeen's ongoing series providing visual inspiration from its archive, following previous editions on colourful taps, scenic bathrooms, and striking patios.
