Dezeen lookbook: eight homes with pocket gardens and mini courtyards

Dezeen's latest lookbook features eight houses that incorporate pocket gardens and mini courtyards to bring daylight and nature into compact spaces. The projects span Australia, the UK, Denmark, Argentina, Chile, and Scotland, designed by studios including Winwood McKenzie, Studio McW, Förstberg Ling, Estudio Futuro, Castley McCrimmon Architects, Duque Motta & AA, Pend, and Sam Crawford Architects. Examples include Quarry House in Melbourne, a former workers' cottage extended around a fernery and internal courtyard; Sobremesa in London, a Victorian terrace with a side and rear extension centered on a small courtyard; and House with a Hidden Atrium in Denmark, featuring a square pocket courtyard boxed by timber walls. Other projects are PH Gainza in Buenos Aires with terracotta-paved patios, Gilbert's Cottage in Albany, Western Australia, with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a courtyard, Casa Altos in Chicureo with a series of pocket courtyards, Canon Mews in Edinburgh with private courtyards for mews houses, and Waverley House in Sydney with a planted courtyard wrapped by kitchen and stairwell.
