Detroit Month of Design 2026 Showcases Motor City Renaissance, from Michigan Central to Little Village

architecture-design · 2026-09-23

The 2026 Detroit Month of Design, curated by Camron and Design Core, highlighted the city's evolution. Ford reopened Michigan Central in 2024, featuring a beautifully restored main hall adorned with 29,000 Guastovino tiles, of which only 1,700 are not original. The building, designed by Warren & Wetmore and Reed & Stem, also includes a 180-room NoMad hotel and a restaurant helmed by chef Matt Eckfeld. The Hudson Detroit, the city’s second tallest structure designed by SHoP, accommodates Rock Ventures and General Motors. Anthony and JJ Curis of Library Street Collective revitalized properties in three neighborhoods, including Assemble Sound and the Louis/Buhl gallery. Notable attractions included Stefan Novakovic's installation "Between Your Love and Mine." A hard hat tour of the Motown Museum previewed a new building set to open next June.
