Designer Julien Roos Creates Liturgical Objects for Notre-Dame and Élysée Palace Furniture

Julien Roos, a designer born in Metz in 1998, has completed significant commissions for major French institutions. In 2025, he finished liturgical silverware—a chalice and paten made of brass and palladium—for the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris, delivered for the first anniversary of the cathedral's reopening. This followed his 2022 creation of the Medulla table for the Salon Murat in the Élysée Palace, a project developed with the Atelier de recherche et de création of the Mobilier national, for which he won the Prix Jeune Création du Mobilier national. His method involves close collaboration with artisans and workshops, often those labeled Entreprises du patrimoine vivant, and a deep study of contexts, archives, and craftsmanship. Roos describes his approach as adding his stone to the building, focusing on sensory experience and symbolism. He studied at ENSAAMA Olivier de Serres in Paris, graduating in 2021 with a higher diploma in Applied Arts, specializing in product design. Other projects include designing the trophy for the experimental film festival Grain Urbain in 2025 and participating in charity sales for the Association La Source de Gérard et Elizabeth Garouste from 2022 to 2024. His 2023 Phloème chair exemplifies his material exploration. Music is central to his creative process, providing an essential bubble for inspiration.
