Designer Alexis Nevan Whelan Crafts Entire Wedding Wardrobe for Nevis Nuptials

Bridal designer Alexis Nevan Whelan, founder of her eponymous brand, designed and created her entire wedding wardrobe for her three-day wedding celebration on the Caribbean island of Nevis. The event, which took place over multiple days, included a welcome party, a beach club afternoon, a ceremony at the ruins of a church, and an after-party at a beachfront bar. Whelan, who began running her brand full-time just before her engagement to Cooper Davis, utilized her industry connections and personal design skills to craft each look. For the welcome party, she designed a dress with a high-low hemline, delicate lace overlay, and organza corset, completing the draping just a week before the wedding. The beach look featured her first-ever bathing suit, paired with a skirt made from hand-woven tussar silk and a headscarf incorporating French lace and chiffon. Her wedding dress was made from silk dupioni fabric sourced from a retiring bridal designer, featuring raw rips and a front closure with hardware. She also created a veil and purse using lace from a favorite mill in New York. The after-party look consisted of a three-layer design with a silver corset and shorts, a beaded fishnet-like fabric layer, and a long skirt. Whelan expressed pride in her ability to plan the wedding and launch her brand simultaneously, noting the experience was fun and memorable.
