Dennis H Miller's Animata Series Merges Music, Abstraction, and AI

Dennis H Miller, a composer turned visual artist based in the United States, has developed the Animata series during 2025 and 2026, his most important current focus. The series integrates decades of experience in composition, digital media, photography, and abstraction with contemporary AI-assisted image generation. Miller studied at Columbia University and taught composition, electronic music, and multimedia art at Northeastern University in Boston. His visual language is rooted in abstraction, often starting from photographs in his personal archive, which are transformed through digital processes. He treats visual elements like musical motifs, emphasizing composition, progression, and resolution. The Animata works evoke growth, pressure, and transformation without representational references. Miller also produced and curated the Visual Music Marathon, which exposed him to a wide range of abstract moving image practices. His work is available through Sedition, LED.ART, NIIO, and his website. He plans to expand Animata for public installations, theatrical presentations, and large-scale screens, while exploring more intentional use of AI.
