A deep partial lunar eclipse will occur from the night of August 27 to the morning of August 28, observable throughout the Americas, western Europe, and western Africa. The peak will take place at 12:13 a.m. Eastern time, with 96.3 percent of the moon entering Earth's umbra, its darkest shadow. The moon will appear orange-red, often referred to as a 'blood moon,' due to atmospheric scattering similar to that of sunsets. This partial phase will last roughly two hours around the peak. Over three billion people, more than 40 percent of the global population, will be able to see at least part of the eclipse. Astronauts on the International Space Station and China's Tiangong space station may also observe it, as highlighted by NASA astronaut Jessica Meir.
