Debaixo do Bloco distills Brasília into domestic-scale installation at Niemeyer's Bienal Pavilion

So, there’s this cool installation called 'Brasília em Escala Doméstica' by the architecture firm Debaixo do Bloco Arquitetura, led by Clay Rodrigues. It was displayed in Oscar Niemeyer’s Bienal Pavilion at Ibirapuera Park in São Paulo. Covering 100 square meters, it transforms Brasília's impressive public designs into something more intimate, using features like pilotis and smooth surfaces. The exhibit also showcases Brazilian modernist furniture from Jorge Zalszupin, Joaquim Tenreiro, and Sergio Rodrigues, as well as international pieces from George Nelson and the Eameses. With a green carpet inspired by a Niemeyer project and a tapestry by Tarsila do Amaral, it truly stands out. This was part of the first Brazilian Architecture Biennial from March 25 to April 30. Rodrigues mentioned that the goal was to capture the city's essence rather than just represent it. Given the recent riots in January 2023 that damaged federal buildings in Brasília, showcasing this at Niemeyer's pavilion feels particularly poignant.
