Deadwood Hut: A Shelter for All Beings by Insight Architects
Deadwood Hut, a 20 m² installation by Insight Architects, was exhibited at the Nankunshan-Luofushan Pioneer Zone Architectural Art Project in Huizhou, China, in 2025. The project reimagines the concept of 'shelter' beyond anthropocentrism, using deadwood collected from the Xutian River to create a habitat for insects, plants, and microorganisms. The structure transforms overlooked riverbank wood into an open, artificial shelter for more-than-human beings. Key contributors include principal architect Siming Wu, curator Chen Donghua, structural consultant Luo Qiyao, and a construction team led by Zhou Xiangyang.
