De Appel hosts collective exhibition and alternative economics programme

In Amsterdam, De Appel is hosting "Building a House Without Bricks," a festival and exhibition that delves into collective organization and alternative economic frameworks. This initiative is spearheaded by damdam, a coalition of collectives that includes the de Appel Curatorial Programme, Sandberg Instituut's temporary master Lumbung Practice, and Jakarta's Gudskul. The festival revolves around three key inquiries: methods of organization, distribution of labor and resources, and sharing of outputs. Following a three-day public event at OT301 in June, this exhibition at De Appel marks its second phase. The collectives emphasize the role of objects in resource redistribution via "transvestment," which involves shifting resources between different value systems, while recognizing the constraints of conventional exhibition formats.
