Day Job Builds a Deliberately Chaotic Brand for Lance Oppenheim's To Be Formed

architecture-design · 2026-10-21

Los Angeles creative studio Day Job designed the identity for To Be Formed, the production company co-founded by filmmaker Lance Oppenheim. Co-founder Rion Harmon told It's Nice That that the studio aimed for something as idiosyncratic as Oppenheim's films, which sit between fiction and non-fiction, describing the goal as playing in that liminal space. The primary wordmark, developed by staff designer Orysia Zabeida, pairs thick forms with slim calligraphic lettering and shifting x-heights, intended to look as though it is about to be formed into something new. Roughly 20 additional wordmarks, many pastiching corporate media culture, can be swapped in, with the main mark acting as an amalgamation of them. References ranged from off-kilter vintage book covers to early 2000s DVD menu screens. On the website, mementos from each movie serve as navigation, giving the site a dreamlike, deliberately dated feel. Oppenheim's 2026 releases include Primetime, You Can See Everything and Phoebe Bridgers' Lost Boys music video. The company name began as a placeholder title that Oppenheim kept.
