Dawoud Bey's Landscapes as Black Historical Archives at AGO

Dawoud Bey's exhibition 'Material Histories, Living Landscapes' opens at the Art Gallery of Ontario on 24 July 2026 as part of the 2026 Toronto Biennial of Art, running through spring 2027. The show unites works from his series 'Night Coming Tenderly, Black', 'In This Here Place', and 'Stony the Road', plus the two-channel film '350,000' (2023) about the Richmond Slave Trail. Curated by Allison Glenn, the installation dialogues with four historic African sculptures from the AGO's Frum Collection. Bey treats landscape as a living archive of Black diasporic histories, violence, displacement, and resilience.
