Davood Boroojeni Office Designs Worker-Centric Factory in Iran

Completed in 2024, the process department of Shamim Polymer Factory in Omid Alborz, Iran, was designed by Davood Boroojeni Office with a focus on worker needs. The 2,200-square-metre building features an asymmetrical parallelogram form, raw iron sheets on one elevation and masonry blocks on another, and a concrete staircase cutting through a corner. The architects observed workers adding unpredicted uses to a previous project nearby, leading them to include amenities like a designated smoking area integrated into the architectural composition, a chicken coop, and green spaces. Sustainable design includes cement blocks from surrounding factories, reuse of 1,000 cubic metres of excavated soil, a rooftop rainwater collection system, and natural ventilation. The floating staircase in the southeast corner symbolizes movement and life.
