Davide Stucchi's 'Temporary Rooms' at Triennale Milano explores home amid housing crisis

At Triennale Milano, artist Davide Stucchi (born 1988, Vimercate) presents 'Temporary Rooms,' a serial exhibition in the Impluvium that reimagines a three-room apartment as a sequence of single-room installations. The show opens with a bathroom, followed by a kitchen, bedroom, and living room, each staged one at a time until October 2026. Stucchi uses construction materials like barriers and black cellophane-wrapped boxes to create a dialogue between inside and outside, referencing the housing crisis in Milan. The bathroom features a sink on a fragile stack of white boxes, a shower activated by an elevator button, a wheeled toilet and bidet kissing, a mirror-window, and a towel made of white gloves. The 'Surreal estate agents'—serpentine neckties—evoke biblical temptation and real estate anxiety. The exhibition dialogues with Ettore Sottsass's Casa Lana, permanently installed at Triennale. Stucchi cites Corrado Levi as an influence. The show is part of a trio of home-themed exhibitions in Milan, alongside Benni Bosetto and Rirkrit Tiravanija at Pirelli HangarBicocca.
