David Zwirner Los Angeles Opens Roy DeCarava Exhibition Curated by Ebony L. Haynes

David Zwirner is presenting an important collection of Roy DeCarava's photographs at 606 N Western Avenue in Los Angeles, curated by Ebony L. Haynes. The exhibition, called "the sound i saw," delves into the relationship between what we see and hear, showcasing pieces made between the late 1940s and the 1960s. With over 130 photographs, it's the most extensive display of this collection since it first appeared at the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York, back in 1983. There’s also a listening room inspired by DeCarava’s work in the nearby gallery at 616 N Western Avenue. Throughout his six-decade career, DeCarava, a New York native, developed a distinctive style of black-and-white photography that reflects modern life with both precision and intimacy, often using a handheld 35mm camera.
