David Wojnarowicz Exhibition Opens at The Modern Institute in Glasgow
The Modern Institute in Glasgow presents 'some day this will all be crumbling ruins,' an extensive exhibition showcasing the multisensory creations of David Wojnarowicz, available until 28 August. This display includes rarely exhibited installations, photographs, and archival documents that delve into themes of ruins, deserted locations, and political disintegration, alongside the queer artistic community of New York's Hudson River piers during the 1980s. Wojnarowicz's immersive environments incorporate maps, found objects, taped writings, animal imagery, fire symbols, and allusions to extinction, sexuality, and state oppression. This exhibition is part of the Glasgow International Festival, which also features 'I Only Have Apple Juice,' a group exhibit curated by John Douglas Millar and France-Lise McGurn at The Coach House from 6 to 21 June. Millar is currently writing a biography of Peter Hujar for Fitzcarraldo Editions/Liveright and co-curated 'Peter Hujar: Eyes Open in the Dark' at Raven Row in London for 2025. Olivia Laing has curated a selection of Wojnarowicz's works for Another Man, with assistance from PPOW, The Fales Library, and The Modern Institute.
