David Nolan Gallery: 40 Years of Drawing in New York

The David Nolan Gallery, founded in 1987 in SoHo, has championed drawing for nearly four decades. Its inaugural exhibition featured Sigmar Polke's 1960s paper pieces and has since included notable artists like Georg Baselitz and Gerhard Richter. David Nolan’s earlier work with Michael Werner in Cologne and Ileana Sonnabend in New York shaped his appreciation for German art. Valentina Branchini joined as a partner in 2018, and in 2020, the gallery moved to a neo-Gothic building on the Upper East Side, which used to be Bykert Gallery—known for showcasing artists like Brice Marden. Branchini has curated impactful projects, and the gallery oversees estates of artists like George Grosz. They plan to participate in the FOG Design+Art fair in San Francisco in 2026.
