Darren Almond's Fullmoon series captures landscapes under full moon light

British artist Darren Almond's ongoing series Fullmoon comprises over 370 photographs of landscapes taken exclusively under the light of a full moon. Using long exposures exceeding fifteen minutes, Almond transforms rivers, meadows, mountains, and seashores into scenes that appear illuminated like daybreak, yet retain a distinct nocturnal atmosphere: shadows emit a mild glow, star trails cross the sky, and water appears as misty froth. The series spans diverse locations including American mountains, Arctic ice fields, Japanese coastal rocks, and British countryside, with the latter treated in a painterly manner. Almond's immersive approach allows each landscape to reveal its own history and hint at its future trajectory, while the work as a whole interrogates the viability of romanticized notions of nature in the contemporary world.
