Daphne Rijkoort's Artistic Evolution: From Childhood Inspirations to Glass Painting

Daphne Rijkoort, known as The Colour Artist, developed her distinctive approach through formative experiences with architecture and painting. At age eleven, visiting New York's Guggenheim Museum sparked her interest in immersive spatial environments. Later, viewing Rembrandt's 'The Night Watch' from an angle revealed painting's dimensional qualities. After studying spatial design at Rotterdam's Willem de Kooning Academy, she returned to painting in 2017, eventually working directly on glass with Neopastel. Her transparent, layered compositions explore colour interaction, feminine forms, and shifting perspectives. Key works include 'The Egg' and 'Head Up High,' reflecting maternal bonds and seasonal influences. Rijkoort's practice emphasizes gradual discovery, drawing inspiration from artists like Kandinsky, Van Gogh, and architectural spaces.
