Dansàneu Festival Faces Uncertain Future Despite National Culture Award

The Dansàneu festival, a multidisciplinary showcase of dance, theater, and music held in the Pyrenees of Lleida, is celebrating its 35th edition this weekend, but organizers warn it may be the last due to severe financial difficulties. A statement from the organizers reads: "Estamos fundidos. No podemos más" (We are broke. We can't go on). This crisis is part of a broader trend: about twenty festivals have been canceled this year across Spain due to sustainability problems. The festival takes place in the same location where the Doctor Music Festival, the mother of all macro-festivals, was born three decades ago. Despite its prestigious recognition, Dansàneu struggles to secure funding, highlighting the precarious state of cultural events in rural areas.
