Daniel Richter's 'Funky Dimes' Opens at GRIMM Amsterdam

This exhibition represents Richter's sixth solo display with the gallery, highlighting a partnership that spans two decades. Gaining fame in the 1990s for his vibrant, complex abstract pieces, Richter transitioned around 2000 to figurative art inspired by historical events and media. His creations weave together themes of art history, politics, mass media, and sexuality into enigmatic visual experiences. Critic Daniel Baird notes that Richter's work since 2000 occupies a 'unresolvable zone' blending various cultural elements. The new paintings continue this exploration, infusing punk energy reminiscent of his early days designing album covers for German punk bands in the 1980s.
