Daniel Idle's Digital Rain Ring embeds Matrix code in a signet ring

architecture-design · 2026-07-10

Designer Daniel Idle from the UK has introduced the Digital Rain Ring, a signet ring plated in sterling silver that incorporates a small OLED screen displaying the iconic green code from The Matrix. The ring's face measures approximately 21 × 18 millimeters and is designed with an open C-shaped band to house its internal components. When not in use, the display seamlessly merges with the black surface, mimicking onyx or obsidian. The animation sporadically shows the message 'Wake up, Neo.' Idle created a bespoke miniature PCB linked to the OLED through a flexible ribbon cable, including a USB-C charging port. Initial prototypes were captured in resin prints and CAD designs, reflecting The Matrix's cultural significance in a wearable form.
