Daniel Buren's 'Plantations, travaux in situ, 2026' at Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny

This summer, the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny presents 'Plantations, travaux in situ, 2026', a new in situ creation by French contemporary artist Daniel Buren (born 1938). The exhibition extends from the gardens into the museum, featuring Buren's signature 8.7 cm wide vertical stripes in alternating white and colors. His works, installed worldwide in public spaces and art venues since the late 1960s, play with viewpoint, color, space, light, and movement. A century after Claude Monet's death, Buren extends Impressionist intuitions about changing color and light in nature, but inscribes works directly into the viewer's space, making perception a moving, renewed phenomenon. 'Plantations' creates large colored perspectives in blue, yellow, black, red, and violet across the Giverny landscape, continuing indoors. The galleries also display a selection of works from the museum's collection alongside Buren's, offering immersion in nature and artistic creation. Curated by Cyrille Sciama and Sylvie Patry.
