Daniel Buren Disperses Works Across Giverny for Monet Centenary
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Claude Monet's passing in 2026, Daniel Buren (born 1938) will showcase "Plantations, travaux in situ" at the Musée des Impressionnismes Giverny from July 17 to November 1, 2026. Buren, who last visited Giverny five decades ago, made a return in the winter of 2025. This initiative stemmed from conversations between Sylvie Patry and Cyrille Sciama, aligning with the centenary. Although their artistic styles differ, curators highlight commonalities in themes such as series, repetition, light, color, and landscape. Buren plans to place tall sculptures featuring colored hemispheres with 8.7 cm stripes throughout the museum, including its garden and meadow, while also reinterpreting works by Eugène Boudin, Pierre Bonnard, Maude Maris, and Jacques Monory.
