Daniel Barclay's 'Concrete Flag' Deconstructs National Symbols at Manuel Zoia Gallery

Peruvian artist Daniel Barclay, born in Lima in 1972, will showcase his solo exhibition titled 'Concrete Flag' at the Manuel Zoia Gallery in Milan from July 15 to September 5, 2026. This exhibition offers a fresh perspective on the national flag through geometric abstraction, prompting discussions about nationhood and authority. Barclay employs a technique of spraying turpentine to dissolve oil paint, fostering a conversation between disintegration and artistic structure. Featured pieces, such as 'Bandera Roja I' and 'Bandera Roja II,' utilize jute and present minimalistic designs with a limited color palette. This exhibition is a continuation of his 'Bandera Concreta' project. Barclay is an alumnus of Corriente Alterna (1999) and Central Saint Martins (MAFA 2004). He received the IX ICPNA National Painting Salon award in 2001 and has engaged in numerous artist residencies, with his works held in prominent collections.
