Daniel Arsham lists his converted 1887 SoHo firehouse for sale

Daniel Arsham has listed his transformed firehouse from 1887, located at 185 Lafayette Street in New York's SoHo. Initially constructed for FDNY Engine Company No. 55, this four-story structure was designed by architect Napoleon LeBrun, known for creating over forty firehouses during the city's growth. The 25-meter-wide building showcases its patterned brick exterior, terra-cotta rosettes, carved stone cornice, and cast-iron columns adorned with flame designs. Engine Company No. 55 was operational until 1982 before it was converted into a private residence. The interior renovation juxtaposes the historic elements with expansive loft-like areas, featuring beamed ceilings ranging from 4 to 4.6 meters, large windows, and wide-plank oak floors. A mint-green lacquered iron spiral staircase links the levels. The ground floor boasts poured concrete floors, 4.6-meter-high ceilings, custom bookshelves, and original double bay doors, serving as a studio, gallery, or garage with vehicle access. A landscaped roof terrace offers a lounge area, cabana, and water line, reflecting Arsham's themes of time and preservation.
