Danh Vo's First Italian Solo Show at Fondazione Nicola del Roscio

Danh Vo, born in Vietnam in 1975 and raised in Denmark, presents his first solo exhibition in Italy at Fondazione Nicola del Roscio in Rome, open until July 17, 2026. The show explores memory, identity, and history through botanical themes, reflecting a shared interest between Vo and collector Nicola del Roscio. Curated by Diego Cassina, the exhibition features works such as 'Untitled' (2021), a low square refrigerator containing a bronze cast of artist Heinz Peter Knes's feet with painted nails, evoking Christ's crucifixion. Another piece, 'Untitled' (2024), is a bronze cast of a 16th-century Spanish crucifix with the hands of Vo's father, Phung Vo, holding glass vials with Tropaeolum majus plants. 'Lick me lick me' (2022) comprises 47 lithographs of Baroque painting details by Caravaggio, Artemisia Gentileschi, Bartolomeo Ghetti, Bartolomeo Manfredi, and Francesco Furini, overlaid with Gothic script quotes from 'The Exorcist' (1973). 'Untitled' (2025) features a Campbell's soup crate containing a detail of a 16th-century Florentine painting of the Virgin Mary nursing. A 3rd-century Buddha head, broken in two and repaired with a bronze joint, is illuminated by plant-growth lamps. Vo's work has been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Pinault Collection in Paris, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
