Daiara Tukano's New Series Explores Yepá Mahsã Cosmology at Almeida & Dale

Daiara Tukano returns to São Paulo with a solo exhibition at Almeida & Dale, presenting around twenty new paintings inspired by the cosmology of the Yepá Mahsã people. Titled 'Omẽ Mahsã – Seres invisíveis', the show runs from July 4 to August 1, 2026. The works investigate Hori rhythmic patterns, winds, birds, and invisible entities linked to air, translating ancestral knowledge into geometric compositions and luminous fields. A large-scale painting over three meters long is included, alongside ink-on-paper pieces. Tukano, a member of the Erëmiri Hãusiro Parameri clan, draws from body painting, basketry, and ceramics to create works that bridge contemporary abstraction and Indigenous visual systems. Her recent international projects include exhibitions in Brasília, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Paris, and London. She received the Medalha Rui Barbosa in 2025 and created a mural honoring Ailton Krenak for São Paulo's Virada da Sustentabilidade. She also curated 'Ohpeko Dihtara – Travessias da Guanabara' at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói. Tukano won the Prêmio PIPA Online (2021) and the Prince Claus Award (2022). Her work is held by Harvard Art Museums and has been shown at MASP, Pinacoteca de São Paulo, Museu de Arte do Rio, El Museo del Barrio, Hayward Gallery, and CCCB. The exhibition is free and open Monday to Friday 10am–7pm, Saturdays 11am–4pm at Rua Fradique Coutinho, 1430, Vila Madalena.
