Cubo unveils Lego's Kornmarken Campus with 25-tonne brick atrium

Danish architecture studio Cubo has completed the Kornmarken Campus innovation and production centre in Billund, Denmark, the latest addition to the Lego campus. The hybrid mass-timber and concrete building houses 1,800 Lego employees working in product design and testing, including the Test & Innovation Centre, Materials Lab, Additive Manufacturing Centre, and Training Academy. Its facade integrates oversized Lego Technic bricks to make it 'unmistakably Lego,' according to Lego head of workplace design Rune Sanggård Andersen. The main atrium features a 25-tonne red two-by-four Lego brick suspended in a pressing mould, alongside historic moulds and technical drawings. Cubo partner Per Ravn said the design balances openness and confidentiality, with enclosed production halls at the exterior and transparent offices above. The building connects to an existing production facility and sits near Lego's headquarters and the BIG-designed Lego House. The project team included general contractor KG Hansen and consulting engineer Rambøll.
