Croxatto and Opazo Architects completes Negrilla House on Chilean coast

Chilean studio Croxatto and Opazo Architects has completed Negrilla House, a 152-square-metre timber home perched over a ravine in the village of Matanzas. The elongated structure splits into two stacked terraces overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The building extends from the road like a pier, coated in black bio-resin to withstand coastal winds. External walkways lined with timber slats lead to the terraces. The living area is positioned slightly higher, curving 34 degrees westward for ocean views. A lower terrace for barbecues sits beneath the main volume. The dark exterior contrasts with interiors lined with planed pine boards treated with a white-based water wash. An 18-metre walkway leads from the southern parking area to the entrance. The home's bedrooms line the western edge, connected by an internal corridor and an additional external walkway. Studio co-founder Nicolás Opazo Marchetti explained that the volume follows the site's contour lines and bifurcates where the terrain steepens, creating a complex spatial node.
