CRAWL program selects 'Doulia’s Ballroom' exploring care and queerness

CRAWL, a program for art workers run by BUG art center (Recruit Holdings Co., Ltd.), has selected the project 'Doulia’s Ballroom' by planner MO. The exhibition runs from June 10 to June 28, 2026, at BUG in Tokyo. The project examines intersections of care, queerness, and grief, featuring live performances by families of children requiring medical care, where carers transform into drag queens for lip-sync performances. When performances are not held, the venue becomes an installation space with photography, video, and living beings, redefining the art center as an open public sphere akin to a park. MO, raised in Taipei and based in Kyoto, was a member of the dance company Mi-Mi-Bi (NPO Dance Box) and previously presented works including 'Monochrome Circus,' 'FLOOD' (2019, Kyoto Art Center), and 'Shima jima no mai mai mai' (2024, Toyooka Theater Festival). MO passed away on April 19, 2026, but the exhibition will proceed with family and collaborators' support. Admission is free, closed Tuesdays.
