Contemporary Art Asia's 'Formless Form' Showcases 27 Artists at OXO Gallery

Curator Min Zhang's Contemporary Art Asia (CAA) presented 'Formless Form' at OXO Gallery in London from June 30 to July 5, 2026, featuring 27 artists from China, Malaysia, South Korea, India, and Indonesia. The exhibition aimed to explore Eastern philosophy and Buddhist concepts of formlessness, though the works largely emphasized abstraction, color, and materiality over specific cultural references. Notable pieces included Xin Zhang's 'Cocooned' incorporating Shibari rope art, Hongru Zhang's 'Captured Form' in jesmonite and glass, and Xin Yue's lampworked glass sculptures. Fanjie Qu, the youngest participant from Shanghai, abstracted Nüshu—a female-only script from Hunan—into psychedelic paintings. Anindia Pradita's 'Timang' offered a meditative mixed-media piece, while Yijin Li's 'First Layer' (oil on canvas, 76.2 x 76.2 cm) depicted a cosmic dream. A performance by Chen Yin on opening night involved a slow, ritualistic dance through the gallery. The exhibition highlighted Asian and British-Asian artists' contributions to global contemporary art, transcending traditional cultural markers and political provocations.
