Concrete Transforms Hotel Basement Into Asymmetrical Nightclub 77

Amsterdam-based studio Concrete has completed 77, a 550-capacity nightclub beneath The BoTree hotel in London's Marylebone. The project repurposes two underused basement levels, avoiding new construction. Its central feature is an intentionally asymmetrical upper level that replaces the typical theatre-style balcony, generating shifting sightlines. A sculptural staircase connects the two levels, reinforcing what Concrete calls a 'vertical narrative.' Gold and silver LED lighting runs in a continuous grid following the curved geometry, synchronized with the sound system. The dancefloor is organized around a centrally positioned DJ booth on a raised platform, with a monumental video screen behind it. Materiality includes black stained oak, folded ribbed metal, and terrazzo flooring. The L-Acoustics sound system with KS21 subwoofers pairs with Robe lighting, lasers, CO2 jets, strobes, and LED screens. Director of Music Eniz Hilmi stated the venue encourages DJs to play extended sets, sometimes all night. The project is backed by Jonathan Wade (former Tao Group executive), Hilmi, and Sebastian Banovic (formerly of KOKO, The Roof Gardens, and Tramp). Completed in 2025, the club is located at 77 Welbeck Street, London.
