Concomitentes Launches €100,000 Open Call for Participatory Art on Democracy's Next 50 Years

The Spanish cultural organization Concomitentes has initiated 'Confabular más democracia,' which includes an open call for €100,000 aimed at selecting two groups under 35 to investigate participatory artistic approaches to the future of democracy. This program commemorates 50 years of democratic freedoms in Spain and responds to findings from the V-Dem Institute indicating eight years of democratic regression, with 74% of the global populace living under autocratic regimes, while 72.6% of young Spaniards support democracy. Backed by Comisionado 'España en Libertad. 50 años,' Fundación Daniel y Nina Carasso, and Universidad de Alcalá, the initiative has produced over 500 projects across Europe. The launch event is scheduled for September 10 at La Casa Encendida, featuring a debate, a performance by Megane Mercury, and a fanzine. Applications will be accepted from September 10 to October 10 and again until November 16, with results announced on November 25, 2026.
