Color Pit: Playground Intervention in Post-Explosion Beirut

In 2021, Studio Etienne Bastormagi executed Color Pit, a site-specific ground intervention at the Armenian Evangelical Central High School's playground in Beirut. Collaborating with Sandra Richani and Nada Borgi, the initiative emerged in response to the 2020 port explosion. Covering an area of 520 m², it embodies the studio's Let's Play philosophy, viewing play as both a civic and therapeutic endeavor. Amidst a post-disaster environment where rebuilding efforts prioritized shelter and infrastructure, the playground was recognized as a crucial yet often neglected area for children's healing through joy, movement, and creativity.
